The Grand Tour
In the 18th and early 19th century wealthy Englishman went to the European Continent for a classical education. This was known as the ’Grand Tour’. They also collected Souvenirs. many of them large statutes and ancient artifacts.
In the mid 1800’s with rail and steamship availability, middle class travelers could now travel to Europe for their own Grand Tour. This Victorian era produced the small purse Souvenirs pictured here.
